Girl and the Sun was started in 2015 when I saw the need for beautiful and accessible destination styles at an affordable price point. I wanted to create a brand for all women that showcased neutral tones, capturing the feeling of a destination holiday even while at home. After 16 years of working in the fashion industry, it was also about creating something that I couldn't really buy for myself anywhere else.
My goal for Girl and the Sun was always to create a meaningful and intentional brand. We strive to produce quality products that can be worn for many years with a message of inclusivity and freedom. We are continually working to improve all elements of the brand with a focus on sustainability and environmental impact and look forward to expanding the Girl and the Sun sisterhood across New Zealand, the USA and Europe.
As a small business, we rely on you – our sisterhood – to allow us to do what we love every day! The support of our amazing customer base has inspired us to give back and we are dedicated to supporting charities that are close to our hearts. We donate $1 of every sale made to a charity making a difference in the world. Charities we have contributed to in the past include Jeans for Genes, Yalari, One Girl, The Go Foundation, Thread Together, the Australian Red Cross and Wires Wildlife Rescue. Our in-house team also makes time to donate blood on a regular basis. Together with your help, we are proof that even a small business can give back and make a big difference! We can't wait to share the amazing charities we will be supporting throughout 2021.
In 2020 we made a commitment to doing our part for the planet and made a number of changes throughout our business to reflect this. In 2021 Girl and the Sun is continuing to focus on the changes we can make with an emphasis on sustainability. We are committed to limiting our social and environmental impacts through choosing lower impact materials in our product and order packaging.
Your online orders are also shipped in compostable postage satchels, wrapped in eco-friendly recycled tissue paper and all Girl and the Sun marketing materials are also printed on Envirocare 100% recycled paper stock. We will continue to work towards improving our in-house practices to reduce our carbon footprint.
Orders may be returned for a refund or a credit, if lodged within 14 days of delivery date for Domestic or 21 days for International.
Please note return shipping costs are at the responsibility of the customer.

All items excluding Sale category items, jewellery and swimwearcan be returned for a Refund. Permanently marked down sale items can be returned for a Credit Note (e-gift card). All items marked as FINAL SALE will not be accepted back at all.If returned to us within 14 days of dispatch for Australia/New Zealand customers or 30 days of dispatch for international customers.
We do not offer exchanges, You are welcome to return any item and re-purchase your preferred size.
Full Priced Items: Can be returned for a refund or credit note - (If you have used a discount code on a full priced item it will be accepted back for a refund or credit note)
Sale Items: If you purchase an item from the sale section/category on the website it will only be accepted back for a credit note.
Final Sale Items: Are final sale and will not be accepted back.
In order to receive a refund or credit note, your return item must meet the following conditions:
Returns will only be accepted under these conditions. As we quality-control all of our styles before they are sent out, we will inspect all return items upon receipt - any returns which fail to comply with the above will be sent back to you. This policy does not affect your statutory rights.
Please note that while every effort is made to accurately display the colour of our garments, as computer monitors vary, we cannot guarantee that your monitor's display of any colour will be completely accurate.
Australian & International customers will be responsible for shipping and handling charges to return unwanted items, unless the item is faulty, then we will cover the return postage. If the package does not reach us, we will not be able to complete the refund, we would recommend sending it via traceable post.
If there is a fault with the style you've purchased, we will offer to repair or replace it where available. If we cannot repair or replace the style, we will offer a refund or store credit. All claims for faulty styles are assessed on an individual basis. The refund will be processed back to the original payment method used to place the order (eg credit card, PayPal, AfterPay or store credit).
If you require an exchange for a different size, colour or alternative items, you can return your items (providing they meet the return conditions under What can be returned?) and you will be issued with a credit note or refund to place a new order for your preferred items. Credit Notes have no expiry date.
Due to the fast turnover of stock, we are unable to hold items and therefore cannot guarantee that your preferred size or colour will be in stock at the time of making your purchase.
We will not process returns until your item is physically received by us in our warehouse. Once received, please allow 2-5 business days for your return to be processed. This period may vary during peak times (sale periods, public holidays, Christmas/New Year). Once your return has been processed, you will be notified via email with details of your credit note or, if applicable, a refund.
We quality control our styles before they're sent out to you to ensure they arrive in perfect condition! However, if you believe your garment has a fault, please email our friendly customer service team at email@example.com. Upon receiving your request, we will handle this with high priority to arrange the best possible course of action for you.
Returns remain subject to Girl and the Sun’s returns policy.
If you wish to return your item/s, please download and print a copy of our returns form here, and send your items back to us as you would for a normal order. When we receive the item/s and accept your return we will issue a refund or credit note for the total value of the item/s returned.
