If you’re like us and dream of summer all year round, then you have come to the right place. We think that the best way to escape Australian winter is definitely to head to Europe for summer. If you’re trying to plan your perfect vacation under the Mediterranean sun but are stuck on where to go, we’ve come up with a few options that will not disappoint!

Milos - For the sun seeker

This volcanic island in Greece is like something you see in your dreams. The landscape of this island is so unique, we promise you have never seen anything like it. People often refer to it as “visiting the moon” because of its picturesque white rock formations which surround the turquoise coast line. An ideal day on this island would be spent cliff jumping into the crystal clear water at Sarakiniko Beach and soaking up the Aegean sun on the smooth rock faces. Once you’re feeling peckish, head over to the seaside village of Mandrakia and enjoy some of the freshest octopus you’ll ever eat at one of the water front tavernas. After your afternoon siesta, head over to the town of Plaka, made up of white washed houses and cobblestone streets, to watch the sun set behind the sea.

Another must while on the magical island of Milos is to hire a private boat for the day and sail around the island's pristine coastline, uncovering hidden spots where you can swim through caves and explore deserted beaches. The great thing about Milos is that you can take in all the beauty that Greece has to offer, without the huge price tag and huge crowds that the popular Santorini has.

 Positano - For the lovers

Going to Positano is like stepping into a post card. The coastal town is nothing short of breath taking. Positano is probably the most scenic town along the Amalfi coast so you really wouldn’t be doing yourself any favours if you went to Italy and did not pay a visit to this beautiful town. The dreamy beaches and endless amounts of delicious food which can be enjoyed while overlooking the beautiful colourful buildings that make up the cliff side village is the perfect recipe for a romantic getaway. If you’re looking for the perfect place to travel to with someone special then look no further. The both of you can spend a couple of days getting lost in the beauty of this town; wandering down its windy roads to uncover the picturesque views this village has to offer.

Positano is definitely not short on boutique hotels. You will find many which are built into the cliff side, with little balconies overlooking the still blue ocean to utilise when enjoying your fresh Italian breakfast each morning. Every afternoon you should most definitely hire two beach chairs with your own umbrella with a glass of rose in hand before getting ready for a romantic dinner up in the mountains where you can consume your body weight in the best linguine you have ever eaten.

Nice - For the explorer

The capital of the French Riviera, Nice, has so much to offer that you will be stuck on what to do each day. From beautiful pebbled beaches, museums, old villages to explore and hilltop views, Nice really has it all. Vieux Nice is known as the ‘old town’ of the city which is made up of captivating architecture and alleyways that are filled with markets and boutique shops that are a most to explore. If you’re an art fan, you’ll have to delve into the cultural history of the French Riviera and head to the impressive Matisse Museum which holds one of the largest collections of Matisse’s works in the world. At sunset, a stroll down the famous boulevard, Promenade des Anglais, which spans along the coastline of the city; it is the perfect spot to enjoy a crepe with a view of the Mediterranean sea. Nice really just has so much to offer, so if you’re one to go exploring, this is definitely somewhere you should be considering.
