To honour and celebrate International Women’s Day this year, we invited five inspirational local women to share what womanhood means to them. This is Zubie's story.
Tell us a bit about you. What are you currently focused on, what does your day to day look like?
I've been working in influencer marketing & talent management for the last 10 years. From a small start-up boutique agency to now working for a global entertainment company. My day to day is a lot of video calls with talent, pr and marketing agencies, brands, and media. All this as well as juggling family life.
What is a life motto that you live by?
To make a commitment to grow daily and live with intention.
How would you describe the modern woman?
I see today's woman as strong, independent, confident, an expert multi-tasker, leader, nurturer, driven & passionate. A modern woman is someone who questions, asks & challenges. Someone who stands up for the voiceless and uplifts her circle.
What does being a woman mean to you?
Ok when I saw this question the first thing that popped in my head was a meme of this old, ragged barbie doll and the caption said "Me trying to have a career, maintain a social life, drink enough water, exercise, text everyone back, get 8 hrs of sleep etc" LOL I feel like society has made it really tough to be a woman. Although it is challenging, as a woman, I love being able to create & nurture meaningful relationships. I am a people person, so I'm grateful to be in a role that nurtures & builds into people. I like to pre-empt situations and always have a Plan B. I feel like in nutshell this is what being a woman means to me!
Is there a book that really stood out to you over the years that you would recommend to other women?
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown.
Can you recount a time you felt empowered by another woman, who they were, what the event entailed?
Honestly there are just too many to even try to mention just one. I'm really blessed to be surrounded by strong, grounded women of substance.
What are you most looking forward to in 2023 and what’s next for you!
2023 is the last year of my 30's so I'm looking forward to a whole new chapter & welcoming a new decade!
