With busy schedules, it can be really hard to make time to finish that book that you started on your last holiday and has been on your bedside table ever since. So what better excuse to get back into that holiday reading habit than not being able to leave your house! To help get you started with this new ‘iso’ hobby, we have compiled a list containing some of our team’s favourite books.
The Power of Intention
A lot of people who have read this book, immediately describe it as life changing. Dr Wayne W. Dyer wrote The Power of Intention after years of researching intention as a force in the universe and how you can harness the energy to allow it to co-create your life. If you are into manifestation and learning more about how the mind operates, this is definitely a must read for you.
The After Series
If you’re looking for a young adult love story (that is definitely not PG) that you can’t possibly put down, then look no further. The After Series follows the complicated romance between two freshman; the goody two shoes Tessa Young and the dreamy bad boy Hardin Scott. When Hardin enters Tessa’s life, he completely changes the way Tessa thought her life was going to pan out. Their relationship is far from perfect and all the drama between them is exactly what will keep you up every night until 3am reading to find out more.
Tattooist of Auschwitz
This fairly short novel about love and survival is based on a heart wrenching true story. Set in World War II, it follows a Slovakian Jew, Lale Sokolov, who is sent to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Once at the camps, his captors discover that he can speak multiple languages, so they give him the roll of Tattooist. The book delves into how Lale uses his position to help fellow prisoners at the camp and how he fell in love with a girl he tattooed named Gita amidst the atrocity. Although the book unearths many horrors for prisoners in the Holocaust which will leave you in tears, the story is an extremely beautiful read, full of hope and courage. If you have never read a book about the Holocaust, this is a great eye opener.
Boy Swallows Universe
This compelling and heartbreaking yet blissful novel is about a thoughtful 12-year-old boy’s journey into manhood. With a mute brother, mother in jail, lost father and a drug dealer for a step-father, Eli Bell’s journey is proven to be pretty difficult. To top this all off, Eli is about to fall in love for the first time. Eli’s coming of age is a wonderful story of brotherhood, crime and true love, and will most likely end up as one of your favourite books. This is definitely a must read, to help with your isolation blues.
